Message from Tony Cusack, President Young Munster RFC.

It is a great honour and privilege for me to have been elected President of Young Munster RFC for this season 2015/2016 and I look forward to the challenge of maintaining and, hopefully, building on the tremendous achievements of the club in the past season, both on and off the pitch. As President I would like to extend a very warm Young Munster welcome to all officials, coaches, players and supporters who visit us throughout the rugby season.

This year we celebrate the 120th Anniversary of our founding in 1895 and I am personally delighted that it sees us competing at the very pinnacle of Irish club rugby despite the many changes which have taken place in the game over recent years and the associated challenges for a club such as ours. The advent of professionalism brought with it many challenges for clubs and we have also had to deal with the various changes that have taken place with the structure and administration of club rugby in Ireland but I am delighted that Young Munster have come through with our core values and ethos intact. This is in part reflected in our renowned reputation for having a very competitive spirit on the field, allied with our reputation of warm hospitality off the field

To our main sponsor Bus Eireann, who have loyally supported us since 1992, I offer a very special thank you as I do to our other core sponsors: GGL Security, Irish Life PLC, PBC Construction, Supermacs, Library Bar and The Parnell Plaza. We offer our appreciation also to the advertisers in our club yearbook, our web site and our pitch side advertisers. All your support is vital for the continued growth and success of our club.

In this Rugby World Cup year we lend our full support to the Irish team and send warm wishes to Joe Schmidt and his coaching staff and to Captain Paul O Connell and his players in the Irish squad. We are, of course tremendously proud of Paul, who we believe epitomises all the is great about our club but we must also recognise and congratulate the growing number of Young Munster players who are gaining International and Provincial representative recognition at all levels of rugby.

We are delighted to welcome our new head coach Anthony Mathision to our club and I am sure all members and supporters will join with me in wishing him and his entire coaching staff, together with our club captain Ger Slattery(winner of UBL Munster Player of Year) and all our players every success for the coming season.

I would like to offer our appreciation to John Staunton, who won UBL Div 1A coach of the year, for his continued input into the overall development of rugby and coaching skills within our club and we applaud his work as Director of Rugby in helping develop very good structures as part of our “Pathway to Senior Rugby”. The excellent achievements’ and results of our adult teams last season coupled with our award as Munster Club of the year are full testimony to this ongoing development.

I would like to thank our under-age chairman Ciaran O Callaghan and his committee and coaches for the hard work, progress and outstanding success achieved at under-age level and wish all involved continued success again this season. We at Young Munster have never lost sight of the huge importance of under-age rugby, both for the individual development of our youngsters and also the great contribution many go on to make to our senior teams.

We must also recognise the tremendous work required behind the scenes to keep our club functioning and for this we owe a great debt of gratitude to the many volunteers who give unselfishly of their time each week including our officers, committee and sub-committee personnel.

Finally! I would like to say a big thank you to all our members and supporters who not only support the club financially but are also the envy of many other clubs for the enthusiastic support they give to all our teams. This support is greatly appreciated by the players and does make a huge difference.

Enjoy your visit to Tom Clifford Park and make sure you take time to enjoy our hospitality before and after each game.

Yours in Rugby.

Tony Cusack.
